The Peace and Justice Initiative was founded in 2010. It is registered as a foundation (“Stichting”) under the laws of the Netherlands.
It has three directors:
Matthew Gillett who has worked as a Senior Legal Officer at the OPCW; as a Trial Lawyer in the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC; and as a Trial Lawyer and Appeals Counsel at the ICTY. He was a member of the New Zealand Delegation to the Kampala Review Conference.
Manuel Ventura who has worked in the Appeals Chamber of the STL. He previously worked in the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICTY, primarily on the Karadzic and Hadzic cases, and in the Ruto (Kenya) Defence team at the ICC. He is an Adjunct Fellow at Western Sydney University and has formerly clerked for Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng of the Constitutional Court of South Africa and President Antonio Cassese at the STL.
